Precious CAD FAQ

1. Solid Trim operation failed, why?

This may be due to the fact that the trim operation fails on self- intersected (the face (s) of an object intersecting with another face (s) of the same object) objects. This may be solved by moving the object to a small distance say 1mm, then perform the solid Trim operation.

2. In Precious CAD I get a message called invalid object after a sweep operation? What does that mean?

In Precious CAD, we do a self intersection check and other checking to identify whether the solid is complete. There is an option "Allow self intersection" in option tab of Control Window. Enabling this will allow the application not to do the self intersection check (the face (s) of an object intersecting with another face (s) of the same object). You might get problems in self intersecting objects when you do Boolean operation such as Union, Subtraction, Intersection, Chop, Cut and Solid Trim.

3.The union operation becomes slow, when applied on Deformed objects?

Union operation might take some time depending on the complication of the object (s) combined. There is an alternate method to combine objects which can be used for design purposes.

4. When I try to model with 50 or more objects the system becomes slow and it is very difficult to design. How to resolve this problem?

Hide some objects and continue the operations. Hiding the operation will improve the performance .

5. Is there a place where all designs can be stored?

Yes, you can store your design into templates or the directory you specified using Add To Library option in Slider Bar. When you want to retrieve, go to the templates option in the slider bar and choose the directory you specified earlier. This will show you a list of items along with preview image of the design.

6. What is the command that helps in designing chains and necklaces?

You can consider using following commands in the Tools menu,

Align along axis

Fit to Curve

Snap on Curve

7. What is the use of macros?

Macro is a script language which helps you to customize commands to suit your needs. We can place the repetitive tasks into a macro and run it any number of times . Training for this can be gradually given to the customers

8. What is the best method to create free form objects?

Precious CAD has got extensive features to handle the free form operations which the jewelry industry need. The following were some of them using the Dynamic deformation of Control Points by move, rotate, scale and freeform methods. Rail - Given a profile and three guide curves, you can dynamically deform the object to any shape you want. Try using the user defined option in control window - Rail panel Skin - Given a set of profiles, you can dynamically deform the object by changing the shape of the profiles. Sweep - Filling a path with a profile is sweep. You can dynamically change the path as well as the profile Revolve - Revolution of a profile around an axis, which can be dynamically changed.

9. How to write a Macro?

In Option menu choose the macro item a Macro Selection Dialog will appear. Click the Create Button to get into the macro workspace and write the VB Script using the available in built functions. Then use Run menu for execution of the program. Please refer to some of the sample macros provided by us by clicking the Edit button in Macro Selection Dialog.

10. How to stop the Macro execution?

Press the Escape key to stop macro execution.
